‘I needed to show I want to be here’

Everton striker Beto says he’s determined to “adapt, keep working” and prove he “wants to be here” after marking his first start of 2026 with a goal in Saturday’s thrilling 3-2 win at Newcastle.

The 28-year-old, now on five goals for the season (four in the Premier League), made it clear he’s hungry for more minutes—and more impact. “I want to keep playing more—starting and helping the team,” Beto said, admitting the game’s momentum swung in Everton’s favour after the second goal, giving both the side and his own confidence a major lift.

Beto was encouraged by his overall display in a demanding contest, pointing to Newcastle’s “strong and fast” defenders and explaining how he focused on holding the ball up, linking play, and then attacking space—an area he openly says he’s still working to improve in training. While pleased with his performance, he insisted he hasn’t reached his ceiling yet: “It was really good… but I think I can do better.”

He also praised Everton’s strong away form and urged the team to turn that into dominance at Hill Dickinson Stadium, saying they want to bring those road points home and make their ground “a fortress.”

Despite the positive moment, Beto offered an honest assessment of his season, admitting he isn’t satisfied with his goal return compared to what he expected. Still, his message was clear: keep adapting, keep grinding—and when the chance comes, take it.
