Chris Wilder was understandably pleased to bring him in, given Phillips’ promotion experience and his pedigree as an England international who has featured in a major final, exactly the kind of presence the Blades were looking for. But that early optimism didn’t last long in the heated clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
Shortly after half-time, Phillips lunged into a reckless challenge and was shown a straight red card. He hasn’t featured since, and is only expected to play after the international break.

Phillips is aware that he has no future at Manchester City and will probably have to rekindle his career at a lower level.
According to Sportsboom, the former Leeds midfielder has informed Manchester City that he wants to avoid returning to the club in the summer.
Since he has no future at the Etihad, he would want to sort out a termination of his contract before pre-season training begins in the summer.
