TOTTENHAM URGED TO CONSIDER SIGNING FORMER PL STRIKER IN A SHOCK £20M DEAL INSTEAD OF OSIMHEN.

Tottenham Hotspur have already shaken up the transfer market with an enormous spending spree this summer, but there is a growing belief that their biggest signing is still yet to come.

After investing close to £250 million on seven new arrivals, the Lilywhites have strengthened multiple areas of the squad. However, many believe their attack remains the one department preventing them from becoming genuine contenders.

Despite narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of the 2025/26 campaign, Spurs lacked a consistent goalscorer throughout the season. Richarlison finished as the club’s leading scorer in all competitions with just 12 goals, while Dominic Solanke also struggled to deliver the numbers expected of a leading striker.

With Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson all having departed after finishing as Tottenham’s top scorer in recent years, questions continue to be asked over who will provide the goals needed to compete at the highest level.

That has inevitably led to links with Victor Osimhen, but some believe Tottenham should instead pursue a far more affordable option.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Chelsea and West Ham striker Carlton Cole suggested Spurs should target former Premier League forward Ivan Toney, who could reportedly be available for around £20 million despite his outstanding goalscoring record since leaving England.

Discussing Tottenham’s transfer business, Adam Catterall said:

“It’s going in the right direction to behave in a different way in the transfer market. I just look at the top end of the pitch and I think to myself where’s the goals coming from in this side?”

Cole added:

“They need a 20 goal a season striker. There’s not many in the world, is there?

“I think that they’d look at bringing Ivan Toney or try to get Harry Kane back. They’ll be flying if they bring him back.”

Catterall responded:

“If Harry Kane came back into THIS Spurs side I’d move them from top six to a top four with a serious push [for the title].

“Is Dominic Solanke or Richarlison getting you 20 goals a season?”

In reply, Cole added:

“Richarlison, no. We’ve seen his body of work. But I still have hope for Solanke if he can stay fit. I like him as a player.

“He’s just never never fit, that’s the problem. If you can get a run of games and get that confidence I think you could be your man because they’ve got someone there that can put the ball in the back of the net. They’ve got [James] Maddison coming back as well.

“They’ve got players coming back from injury where they’re gonna be looking up and with the recruitment as well if they’ve got it right. It’s been very very good.”

Toney has enjoyed an outstanding spell since joining Al Ahli, scoring 72 goals in 93 appearances in the Saudi Pro League, further strengthening the argument that he remains one of the most clinical English strikers available.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane continues to thrive at Bayern Munich after winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles. The England captain has scored 146 goals in 147 appearances for the German champions and is expected to extend his stay despite having one year left on his current deal.

While Tottenham continue to be linked with high-profile names such as Victor Osimhen, Savinho, Cody Gakpo and Nicolas Jackson, Cole’s suggestion offers a different path—one that could see Spurs land a proven Premier League goalscorer for a fraction of the price and finally solve their long-standing striker dilemma.
